Photo policy
Your photos are central to the product, so we treat them carefully. Here's what happens to them.
What makes a useful photo
- One wide shot of the affected panel, one medium, and at least one close-up.
- Even, diffused daylight when possible. Avoid direct sun and harsh shadows.
- Dry surface — water beads can hide or exaggerate scratches.
- Include multiple angles for dents so depth is visible.
Where your photos are stored
Photos are stored on encrypted infrastructure operated by WellKept Auto and our hosting provider. Access is restricted to the case owner (you), shops you choose to share with, and a small number of operators who may review low-confidence cases.
What we strip
We strip embedded GPS coordinates and device metadata (EXIF) before photos are displayed to shops. Your ZIP is shared for matching; precise location is not.
What we never do
- Sell your photos or share them with advertisers.
- Use them to train third-party AI models.
- Publish them publicly without explicit, written opt-in.
- Apply face or license-plate recognition.
Retention and deletion
Active case photos are kept while the case is in progress. Abandoned or closed cases are deleted within 90 days. You can request immediate deletion at any time by emailing trust@wellkeptauto.com with your case ID.
People and plates
If a photo accidentally contains another person, a license plate from a nearby car, or other identifying detail, let us know and we will redact or delete it.
